Memories of Oldham Street, Manchester Store.
I found some of the photos I told you about.. re when my late father Cyril Fletcher was Manager of Oldham Street until May 1968.  The photo’s are all of Bata Oldham Street, Manchester. Two of them say Dec 1962 on reverse of colour photo and others can date from Beatles song, She Loves you being at number 1. Yes I recall the beatles song ‘Love me do’ playing in the shop… there was a top 10 chart at the back of the store in those days.

As a child (c1962/3) I remember my dad doing the books for the shop and have a few anecdotes – re Freddy and the Dreamers came into buy Beatle boots but Freddy’s feet were small so they couldn’t fix him up so nobody in the band got them!!

Teddy boys came in with Jif lemon squeezers! (If only that was the worst these days!)

There was a board showing top 10 which music was played in the shop and Beatles Love Me do was No 1! I may have photo of that.

I remember Bata Tuffee s and Wayfinders with compass inside… though got my own way and got some lilac sling backs from somewhere else once when I was 11!!!
