Our latest Open Day was hosted in the reception area of the old Bata factory “Admin” building in East Tilbury on Saturday 13th April, drawing over 100 people, including Monica Pignall-Bata.  The day brought together ex-Bata employees and local residents of all ages new to the Bata story.

Conversations were prompted by a range of exhibitions including one about the 2017 library fire with destroyed items on display and a supervised hands on ‘Restore a Bata artefact’ activity (see the picture below).

Various photographs and items were donated at the Open Day including valuable family photos of East Tilbury in the 1940s and a pair of 1950s Bata football boots.

55 people went on walking tours thoughout the day, hearing many hidden Bata stories about the historic architecture of the factory and residential estate and the interesting social history of daily life in and around East Tilbury when the factory was in its heyday.

Special thanks were made to One Big Storage who provided the space free of charge and facilitated a special viewing of the Director’s Office.
