NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
 
Notice is hereby given that the next Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Bata Heritage Centre will be held on Thursday, 6 April 2023 at 10:00am at the East Tilbury Library, Princess Avenue, East Tilbury, RM18 8ST.
 
The proposed agenda includes:
  • Minutes of the Previous AGM
  • Matters Arising
  • Officers’ Reports
  • Approval of the audited accounts
  • Election of Chairman*
  • Election of Committee Members
  • Approval of proposed amendment to the Constitution regarding the size of meeting quorums reducing from 7 to 5 members (Ref: Constitution sections 6.1.8 and 7.5) 
  • Any Other Business
  • Date of Next AGM – (4 April 2024)
* Under the rules of our Constitution, one of our three officers (Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer) stands down each year in rotation.  They can stand for re-election, subject to nomination by a proposer and seconder.  This year the Chairman stands down on rotation.
 
Nominations for Chairman and Committee Members each require a proposer and seconder, both of whom must be registered supporters of the Bata Heritage Centre.  Nominations must be received by 23 March 2023 at brrcatbatamemories@hotmail.com.
 
Similarly, proposals for Any Other Business must be received by 23 March 2023 at brrcatbatamemories@hotmail.com. These must also be proposed and seconded by registered supporters.
 
All our registered supporters are welcome to attend the AGM.  However, due to limited space available at the Library, it is important to let us know by 30 March at brrcatbatamemories@hotmail.com if you wish to attend.

Open Day – Saturday, 15 October 2022

Location: Old Bata Shoe Factory & East Tilbury Library

The next Bata Heritage Centre Open Day will be held on Saturday, 15 October 2022.  Admission is free.

We are very pleased to announce that this will be a two-centre event as follows:

  • 10:00 – 13:00 – Building 13 (the old admin building of the Bata factory), Thames Industrial Park, Princess Margaret Road, East Tilbury, Essex RM 18 8RH
  • 10:00 – 16:00 – East Tilbury Library, Princess Avenue, East Tilbury, Essex RM18 8ST

It is recommended that all those attending the Open Day head for Building 13 initially where ample WC facilities are available.  Optional guided walks around the Bata estate leave from Building 13 (11:00, 12:00 and 13:00) and will finish at the Library.  Booking for these tours is essential – please email us at brrcatbatamemories@hotmail.com to reserve your place.  A donation of £5 per person* is suggested and this will be collected at the start of the tour.  At 2:30pm, there will be a free, illustrated “Heritage Talk” at the Library and all are welcome to attend. 

*Open Day special offer – For just £8, combine the purchase of our informative booklet about the history of Bata at East Tilbury (normally £4) with your donation for the tour.  

Our main exhibition displays, records and research facilities are now back in the newly refurbished East Tilbury Library.  Here you will find displays of some of our collection illustrating the life and times of the Bata factory and those living on its residential estate between the 1930s and the early 2000s.
