JAMES (BENNY) LYNCH
James Lynch was a Sergeant in 166 Squadron Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.

James (Benny) Lynch trained as an Air gunner in East Anglia he reached the rank of Sgt.
Formerly a member of the Young Men’s Hostel he came to East Tilbury from the Coal Mining areas of Hetton-le-Hole, Co. Durham, where he had been working in the mines, In January 1938 left to be a student at Bata Industrial Training College.
In the Bata Record, March 1939, he says that the food and facilities at the hostel were simply grand. At that time he was working as an edge-setter in Department 432.
He left 2 years later to join the R.A.F. at the age of 18.
He was the son of Mrs S.J.Lynch.
He was greatly missed when he joined the RAF Volunteer Reserve not only by his workmates, but by the young ladies, as he was in great demand as a dancing partner at the functions organised by the Sports and Social Club, in which he took a keen interest being an all round sportsman.
He died on Saturday 22nd January 1944 aged 24.
