ARTHUR LESLIE FARAWAY (Farraway)
Arthur Faraway was a Private with 2nd Battalion Essex Regiment.
He was born on 13th July, 1917 the son of George and Helen Faraway of Grays, and husband of Edith Emily Faraway (nee Layzell) of Grays, Essex.

Trained in Signals, which he found interesting although stated in a letter to the Bata Record that he had seen so many dots and dashes that he would wake at night with spots before the eyes.
Arthur Faraway worked as a shop assistant in Salmon’s Stores before joining the British Bata Shoe Company at East Tilbury in 11/03/1935 where he worked in the Rubber Factory Register No: 1898.
He left to join the Army in 1940.
He died in hospital on the Isle of Wight as a result of enemy action on Tuesday 1st June 1943, aged 26.
Buried at Grays New Cemetery Thurrock.
