Civilian casualty of WWII.
Daughter of John William Shilling and Lilian Shilling (née Mann) of 59 Burgess Avenue, Stanford-le-Hope .
Lilian was a Machinist in the leather factory of the British Bata Shoe Company East Tilbury.
She was also one of the ten victims of a land-mine attack on 8th April 1941.
Dad John died at Orsett Lodge Hospital (now Orsett Hospital), Lilian died there the following day.
On Saturday 9th April 2016, around the 75th anniversary of the tragedy, a planter and plaque was unveiled at The Oak House [Christian Care Home] in Stanford-le-Hope near where the parachute mine landed on Corringham Road.
The dedication was led by John Read and read by the Reverend Roy Jefferies.
