HERBERT FAIRCHILD

Herbert Fairchild was an Oiler with the Merchant Navy aboard S.S. Oronsay.

When Bert, HERBERT Fairchild was born in April 1922 in Grays Thurrock, Essex, his father, Walter, was 46 and his mother, Minnie, was 37. He had six brothers and two sisters.

Oronsay was some 500 miles southwest of Freetown, she was torpedoed by the Italian submarine Archimede.

He died on Friday 9th October 1942, aged 20.
