STANLEY SALONIKA ASHDOWN
Stanley Ashdown was a Private in the 4th Battalion Suffolk Regiment.
He was born on 28th September, 1916, son of Henry James and Kate Alice Ashdown of 1 Grays Hall Farm, Dell Road, Grays, Essex.
Stanley came to work at the leather factory Dept 422 on 31st July 1933, he was previously employed as a Labourer by Saunders & Co.
Stanley wrote a article for the Bata record in February 1939 titled The other man`s job Finishing.
He wrote to the Bata Record in 1941 remarking on the shortage of cigarettes in Manchester, where he was stationed at the time.
Stanley was Captured 15/02/1942 and sent to Prisoner of War Camp Malai 4.
Stanley died on Monday 20th September 1943 aged 27 whilst he was building the railway in Thailand for the Japanese.
