The Open Day held on 26 April 2017 was a great success.  Thank you to all those who came along to support us on this the first Open Day since the devastating fire at the East Tilbury Library threatened to destroy our unique and important heritage collection.

It was encouraging to see so many people attending and chatting to our volunteers about our displays and exhibits.  We also talked about the initial progress being made with our insurance claim and application for grants to help us recover and restore our collection for the future.  We were particularly honoured by the presence of Sir John Tusa, son of the General Manager of the British Bata Shoe Company here in East Tilbury for many years.

Thank you so much to all those who gave so generously either by buying booklets, mugs and postcards, going on the guided tour (we hope you’ve dried out by now!) and by donating to our Phoenix Fund.  In all, we raised £127.90 on the day.  The money collected in the Phoenix Fund will be spent specifically on recovering from the fire, restoring our collection and rebuilding for the future.
