The Open Day will be held on Saturday 28 April 2018 (10am – 2pm). Following the success of our October Open Day last year, we have decided to hold this event on a Saturday again. Again, it will take place in the former admin block (Building 13) on the Bata factory site, Thames Industrial Park, Princess Margaret Road, East Tilbury, RM18 8RH.
It would be great to see as many of our friends and supporters as possible. There will be some displays, photographs and examples of smoke damaged items and some that our volunteers have cleaned. Of course, there will be plenty of volunteers on hand to discuss the fire and its aftermath and, in particular, how we are recovering and our plans for the future. In particular, the restoration of our unique collection will have commenced following the fantastic support we have received from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Thurrock CVS and donations from the local community. Together with our insurance claim, we are now in a position to move forward and have begun an exciting project to bring the Heritage Centre back ‘From the Flames”.
As usual, we are offering guided walking tours of the estate during the Open Day. A donation of £3 per head is suggested for those joining the walk – advance booking is essential via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Although there will be limited exhibits on show this time due to the circumstances, we hope to cover as much of our normal Open day objectives, as follows:
Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to work for Bata – “Shoemakers to the World”, or to live on the factory’s housing estate?
Come along to our FREE Open day and discover:
- an interesting and unusual slice of Essex and British history
- a fascinating insight into Bata’s Social History and Community Spirit
- a unique and important Industrial and Architectural Heritage
- exhibits, displays, photos and videos, Bata’s own weekly newspaper and more
