The Open Day will be held on Wednesday, 26 April 2017 (10am – 3pm). However, due to the recent fire and the temporary closure of the East Tilbury library, it will now be held in the East Tilbury Scout Hall, HQ Hammond Hall, Princess Margaret Road, East Tilbury, RM18 8SB.
It would be great to see as many of our friends and supporters as possible. There will be some displays, photographs and examples of smoke damaged items and some that our volunteers have cleaned. Of course, there will be plenty of volunteers on hand to discuss the fire and its aftermath and, in particular, how we are recovering and our plans for the future. We are also planning a guided walking tour of the estate starting at 12 noon. A donation of £3 per head is suggested for those joining the walk – advance booking is advised via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Although there will be limited exhibits on show this time due to the circumstances, we hope to cover as much of our normal Open day objectives, as follows:
Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to work for Bata – “Shoemakers to the World”, or to live on the factory’s housing estate?

- an interesting and unusual slice of Essex and British history
- a fascinating insight into Bata’s Social History and Community Spirit
- a unique and important Industrial and Architectural Heritage
- exhibits, displays, photos and videos, Bata’s own weekly newspaper and more
